Cornered
She knew that he was provoking her to verbally attack him so he would not have to work with her mom to avoid any possible lawsuit. He would only have to say he could not work with Miranda and refuse treating her mother.
When you have a loved one going into the nursing home, make a list of their clothing and personal belongings. Your list will be used to help you keep track of their possessions. Upon arrival, ask the nursing home for their inventory form. Complete and return their form to the staff. Ask for a copy for your own records.
This is a fictional example of what could go wrong.
Be sure to make an inventory of the resident’s clothing and personal possessions.
Kate’s mom was placed in a nursing home for the first time. A member of the administration staff at the facility solemnly instructed the family to purchase additional clothing. Kate was shocked and felt nauseous because she had just invested $400 for end of season discounted clothes for her mom. Kate was not financially able to purchase more clothes.
Kate contacted a member of the local governmental division for the elderly. She adamantly relayed her concerns about missing clothes and her plans to file a theft report. The missing items were searched for and recovered by a staff member of the facility.
It turned out that her ample wardrobe was shoved in the back of drawers and the staff didn’t look for them…just said she needed more. If Kate would have shown the inventory list to the administrative staff, they would have recognized their request was groundless.
Be sure to label everything with the resident’s name. Do not use a room number, as these change.
We hear stories of others’ experiences. Newly purchased clothing disappears in a few days. Patients are wearing someone else’s things. Or, they are not being dressed appropriately to keep comfortable in cool temperatures.
What experiences have you had?
