Mela is a 28-year old business woman. Her mom calls, giving an order,“I want you to come to the deli right now!”

‎‎

So she did. “Come and meet your half-sister!” she growled. Her mom’s face showed unbelievable anger. She pushed the swinging kitchen door open and motioned with a single pointed finger, directing Mela to follow her.

‎‎

It was just another war on her mom’s agenda, but how often does anyone’s mother says to meet an unknown member of the family?

‎‎

Especially a sister.

‎‎

An eleven-year old girl sat by a laminated service table located just past the kitchen work area.

‎‎

Her mom pointed at her, “There she is, look at her!”

‎‎

Her dad stood close by, scared, but not showing any other emotion, waiting until her mom tells him how to feel. The presence of the girl was as much a shock to him as it was to the rest of of the family.

‎‎

“Someone dumped her off this morning and said she was your dad’s, and that her mom died. She has no where to go.” Her mom was yelling and shaking her finger at the child. “Well, she’s not staying here!”

‎‎

But even without a DNA test, she was his.

‎‎

She had wavy dark, dry-looking hair. She had his skin color, something Mela didn’t have. She did have a sprinkling of freckles which he didn’t have. The girl wore an inexpensive top covered with a flowered print, with elbow length sleeves.

‎‎

“She’s beautiful!,” Mela said. Up to that point, the young girl was looking down at the table top, then she shyly lifted her face and smiled at Mela.

‎‎

Mela turned and quickly walked out. Her mom raced after her and yelled, demanding to be told where she was going.

‎‎

Within the hour, Mela arranged to have immediate custody of her sister and applied for adoption.

‎‎

Mela was confident about the adoption. She had a dream that a young girl, which looked like the sister she just saw, was standing on a stage, and asking Mela with her eyes, ‘Why don’t you know or recognize me?’ Mela asked her mom about the girl in the dream the next day. Her mom laughed. Such an idea like this would prove Mela was delusional. She was hoping to grab not only Mela’s assets, but her life, making a zombie out of her for her mom’s own entertainment.

‎‎

This proved her mom was not in charge. God is.
